Allen Joe met Bruce in 1962, when he was working as a waiter at Ruby Chow restaurant. Friend of instructor James Lee in Oakland, he put both of them in contact and became his student when Bruce moved to California. Determined to make a qualitative leap in his martial art, and starting with a good fitness condition, it was Joe Allen who started Bruce in weight training and gave him his first set of dumbbells. Joe was an expert in the field and in several occasions monitored his progress and prepared his specific fitness training plans
